Episkopaalisen kirkon pappina henkisen polkunsa aloittanut Bertiaux vihkiytyi haitilaiseen Voudoniin 1960-luvulla. Bertiaux oppoutui Haitissa pian myös gnostilaisesta voodoosta ammentaneeseen Ordo Templi Orientis Antiqua -järjestön toimintaan.
